Start Registering for the Final Fantasy XIV Online Beta

Did you enjoy Final Fantasy 11 online?  I personally found it to be one of the most boring games I've ever been convinced of buying and paying monthly for.  That's just me, though. It's still going strong today and we even have a few community members still playing it on and off.  Apparently they addressed the boring parts, but I won't believe it until I see it.  What about the new Final Fantasy MMORPG you ask?  Hit the jump to read more about it and sign up.

Worth It - Effeminate Main Character Edition

Welcome to "Worth It - Games Worth Playing this Week," a new weekly column you'll find here every Monday. In Worth It, I'll sift through the games being released this week to let you know what you can look forward to and, sometimes, what is just too bad to ignore.

This week, obsessive fans of all sorts rejoice, from the increasingly rare tabletop strategy gamer to the Sephiroth fanboy. Hit the jump to find out more.

Me, The Übermensch, and the Console RPG

One of the first RPGs I ever played was Chrono Trigger. Oh sure, I had played Dragon Warrior when I was but a wee zygote and I'm pretty sure I hit Earthbound on the SNES first, but I was still damn green when it came to RPGs. I know this because after some moaning to my friend about the difficulty of saving in Chrono Trigger, he informed me that I could actually save anywhere on the world map instead of saving only once in a blue moon at the game's very uncommon save points. I give my old friend endless credit for gently informing me of an RPG trope that is only slightly less common than magic swords. Had he chosen to mock me instead, he might have spontaneously invented the modern usage of the word noob in 1995.

Despite such early stumbles, RPGs very quickly became my genre of choice. Needless to say, I had made a terrible decision  that would cost me dearly in time, money, and general social standing for years to come. At least I had friends leveling up along the road to hell with me! Squaresoft was setting the world on fire back then as far as our little gang was concerned, and the feedback loop of our enthusiasm kept us all going and made “gamers” out of the lot of us. As for myself, I would eventually develop an obsession that not even some of my fellow gamers understood.

Square Enix working on Cinematics for Deus Ex 3

Deus Ex 3 has received much skepticism from me as Warren Sepctor has absolutely nothing to do with the project.  This may results in a failure in my eyes.  Most people would say that he can't do much worse than Deus Ex: Invisible War, but I beg to differ. On a lighter note, Deus Ex Central brings news that Square Enix is working on the pre-rendered cut scenes for the game. This can only mean that the game is well into production and more tasty news is on the way. More after the jump.

The Fan Subbed Final Fantasy XIII Is Great

If you listened to the latest couchcast, you'd know that I loved the new Final Fantasy trailer, even though it was in Japanese. Well, Square Enix has some fantastic fans that have translated and subtitled the trailer in English. Not much more needs to be said, check it out above.

When Square Enix and PopCap get together...

One of the strangest things to come out of TGS so far wasn't some weird tentacle porn game, but a puzzle game. PopCap and Square Enix merged together to create a puzzle RPG that resembles Bejeweled and...uhhh...a crazy Japanese RPG.

Games that Changed My Life: Final Fantasy 8

There have been many games that I would consider life changing for me. I am utterly enamored with the Halo story, including the books and comics, or the disgusting amount of time I put into World of Warcraft and Warhammer Online. However, one game came at the perfect time for me, when my life was thrown into turmoil. That was Final Fantasy 8.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles hitting the Wii in December

If your Wii is like mine, it's neglected. That's because almost no good games come out for it. If you want shovelware, though, it's definitely your platform. Hopefully that will change, and right after Christmas. Joystiq is reporting that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers has a release date.
